Binghamton, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Catskills as a strong storm system approaches, bringing rain and snow starting Thursday night. Residents and travelers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility as conditions worsen.

The National Weather Service predicts rain will develop overnight Wednesday, continuing through Thursday before transitioning to snow in higher elevations by Thursday evening. Up to three inches of snow is expected in the Catskills, with localized higher amounts possible. Temperatures will drop to near freezing, creating hazardous driving conditions, especially along Route 17 and other mountain roads.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary trips as snow and ice are expected to make roadways dangerous. The storm will linger through Friday, with additional snow showers possible into Saturday. Colder temperatures will persist, keeping conditions slippery into the weekend.

Residents should monitor weather updates closely and prepare vehicles for winter conditions. Emergency kits, including warm clothing and blankets, are recommended for those traveling in affected areas.

The National Weather Service advises checking road conditions and staying informed about potential changes in the forecast as the storm progresses.
