Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory will take effect Saturday morning, warning residents across eastern New York of hazardous conditions. The National Weather Service predicts freezing rain, icy roads, and reduced visibility that may significantly disrupt travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, freezing rain is expected to begin before 10 a.m. Saturday, transitioning to rain as temperatures rise later in the day. Roads, sidewalks, and bridges may become slick due to ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch, creating hazardous driving conditions along major routes, including I-90 and the Taconic State Parkway.

The advisory includes counties such as Rensselaer, Albany, and Columbia, as well as the Hudson Valley region. Residents are urged to use caution while traveling, delay non-essential trips, and monitor weather updates.

The hazardous weather extends into the weekend. Saturday night brings additional rain, with mild flooding possible due to melting ice and snow combined with heavy rainfall. By Sunday, rainfall is expected to intensify, with a 90% chance of precipitation. Temperatures will rise to a high of 51°F, with localized river flooding possible early next week.

Looking ahead, showers may continue into Monday, with temperatures reaching the mid-50s before dropping to the 30s by midweek. Areas may also see snow Wednesday into Thursday as colder air returns.

For safety, avoid driving on untreated surfaces, ensure gutters are clear of debris, and stay informed through NOAA Weather Radio or weather.gov.
