Boonville, NY – A midweek storm may bring significant snowfall to northern Oneida County, creating hazardous travel conditions as early as Wednesday morning and continuing into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Binghamton, a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Tuesday night through Thursday morning for Northern Oneida County, including communities along the Tug Hill Plateau and areas north of Rome and Utica.
Forecasters say 7 inches or more of snow are possible, with the heaviest snowfall expected on Wednesday, when snow bands may strengthen and persist throughout the day. The region may also see minor accumulations both before and after the main storm window as a wintry pattern remains in place across upstate New York.
Travel could become very difficult, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes, when snowfall rates may increase and visibility could drop quickly in heavier bands. Roads, bridges, and higher-elevation routes across the Tug Hill area may become slick and snow-covered.
NWS officials urge residents to monitor forecast updates as confidence increases in snowfall totals, exact timing, and storm intensity. Drivers should ensure their vehicles are winter-ready and allow extra time if travel is unavoidable.
If current trends hold, this system could bring the most impactful snow of the week to northern Oneida County, especially in rural and elevated terrain where snow typically accumulates faster.
