Oswego, NY – Up to 3 feet of snow is expected in Oswego County and the Tug Hill region as a Lake Effect Snow Warning goes into effect Monday afternoon. The storm is set to significantly impact travel and daily activities through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo issued the warning for Oswego County from 1 p.m. Monday to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Jefferson and Lewis counties, including the Tug Hill region, are under the same alert until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Snowfall totals of 2 to 3 feet are predicted in areas experiencing persistent lake effect snow bands, with slightly lower amounts outside the hardest-hit zones.

The most intense snowfall is expected from Monday night through Tuesday night. Drivers should prepare for whiteout conditions, very poor visibility, and deep snow accumulations on roads. Rapid weather changes and localized snow bands could cause highly variable conditions within short distances.

Residents are advised to stock up on supplies, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain informed as the storm progresses. Emergency kits, including blankets and food, are recommended for those traveling.

Although lake effect snow is common in the region, totals approaching 3 feet could make this one of the winter’s most significant events. Visit the NWS Buffalo website for updates and safety tips.
