New York-Western Massachusetts Weather: 5 Inches Snow, 0.10 Inch Ice Snarl Roads Until 7 AM Saturday

Saratoga Springs, New York – Snow, sleet and freezing rain are creating hazardous travel across eastern New York, western Massachusetts and northwest Connecticut, with impacts lasting through 7 a.m. EST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for northern and southern Litchfield County in Connecticut, Berkshire County in Massachusetts, and parts of Saratoga, Washington, Rensselaer, Columbia and Dutchess counties in New York. Additional snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with up to 5 inches possible in northern Saratoga and Washington counties. Ice accretion may reach 0.10 inch.

Snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour are possible this afternoon.

Travel along Interstate 87 near Saratoga Springs, Route 7 through the Berkshires and Route 22 in eastern Dutchess County may become slick during the evening commute. Bridges and untreated roads will ice over quickly as temperatures hover near freezing.

A light glaze could coat sidewalks and driveways.

Communities including Pittsfield, Torrington, Clifton Park, Greenwich and Pawling should expect deteriorating road conditions after sunset.

Precipitation tapers toward sunrise Saturday, but icy patches may linger into early morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
