Buffalo, N.Y. – High heat and humidity will grip western New York through Sunday, with isolated thunderstorms developing this afternoon, particularly along and south of Interstate 90.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, today’s high will range from 82°F to 90°F under partly sunny skies. Isolated showers or storms are possible this afternoon, especially from the Southern Tier to the Finger Lakes. Saturday brings increased heat danger with highs near 92°F and heat index values reaching 100°F in some areas.

Scattered storms Saturday may lead to localized flooding or strong wind gusts. Cities like Jamestown, Olean, and Elmira are most at risk for both storm activity and excessive heat. Sunday’s conditions remain unstable, with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected. A Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall and Severe Storms is in effect for much of the region.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and monitor local alerts. Power outages and hazardous driving may occur during heavy downpours.

Storm chances and heat risks persist through Sunday night. More watches and warnings could be issued depending on storm intensity.
