NEW YORK – A quick-moving winter storm will bring a burst of snow to parts of the Hudson Valley, northeast New Jersey, and southwest Connecticut beginning early Tuesday morning and lasting through Tuesday evening, creating slick travel for the morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in New York City, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday for Orange, Putnam, and Rockland Counties in New York and western Passaic County in New Jersey. Snow will develop before daybreak, intensify through midmorning, and taper off late Tuesday night.

Forecast snow totals range from 3 to 4 inches in Middletown and West Milford, 2 to 3 inches across Poughkeepsie, New City, and Danbury, and 1 inch or less closer to White Plains, Bridgeport, and New Haven. While New York City and Long Island should see mostly rain, northern suburbs could experience a slushy accumulation on untreated roads and overpasses.

The heaviest snow is expected between 7 a.m. and noon, with reduced visibility and snow-covered roads likely north and west of I-287. Travelers should allow extra time and use caution on elevated surfaces.

Temperatures will hover near freezing, then slowly rise into the mid-30s by afternoon, helping melt lower-elevation snow.
