BUFFALO, New York – Another round of gusty winds and widespread showers will sweep across western New York on Friday as a fast-moving cold front crosses the region, bringing a wet and blustery end to the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, rain will spread east across the area late Thursday night into Friday morning, becoming steady through the afternoon before tapering by evening. The strongest winds are expected from midmorning through early afternoon, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph across much of western and north-central New York.
Forecasters note that while this system won’t bring severe weather, the combination of heavy showers and strong gusts could cause scattered travel delays, especially along the Lake Erie shoreline and elevated routes such as I-90 and Route 400. Tree limbs may fall, and minor power outages are possible in exposed areas. “Winds will ease by sunset, but temperatures will drop quickly behind the front,” meteorologists said.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution when driving high-profile vehicles during gusty periods. Cooler, drier air will move in by Saturday, marking the start of a quieter weekend across the Great Lakes region.
