Albany, NY – After several chilly days with highs stuck in the 30s, a noticeable warmup is set to arrive just in time for the start of spring, bringing temperatures up by as much as 20 degrees across eastern New York by Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, highs will remain in the mid to upper 30s through Wednesday before gradually climbing into the 40s Thursday and reaching the upper 40s to low 50s by Friday. Cities including Albany, Schenectady, and Troy are expected to see highs near 50°F, while areas farther south and in the Hudson Valley could edge slightly warmer.
The warming trend will improve travel and outdoor conditions across major corridors like I-87 and I-90, where recent cold has kept surfaces chilly. Snow and ice concerns will diminish, though early mornings may still bring patchy frost or refreeze in colder valleys and higher terrain such as the Catskills and Adirondacks.
Residents can expect more comfortable afternoons heading into the weekend, but should remain cautious during early morning hours when temperatures still dip near or below freezing.
This gradual warmup will continue into the weekend as spring officially begins Friday, with additional mild days likely and no major cold snaps expected in the immediate outlook.
