New York, New York – Another bitterly cold start is gripping the New York City metro and surrounding areas this morning, with temperatures stuck in the teens and 20s and little daytime relief expected.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, temperatures will remain near or just below freezing through the day as dry conditions persist. Despite some sunshine, the cold air mass in place will keep highs muted, offering little melt on untreated surfaces. Morning commuters may notice lingering icy patches, especially in shaded areas and on bridges.

Conditions begin to change tonight as a fast-moving clipper system approaches from the west. The system is expected to bring a brief period of light snow across the region late tonight into early Sunday. Snowfall amounts are expected to remain minor, generally limited to a tenth or two of an inch, but even light accumulation could create slick spots on roads and sidewalks overnight.

Areas across the five boroughs, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and coastal Connecticut may all see a light coating. While no major travel disruptions are anticipated, drivers should remain alert for patchy slick conditions during the overnight hours and early Sunday morning.

Cold conditions continue into Sunday morning before a gradual moderation begins later in the weekend. Forecasters note that while tonight’s snow threat is low-impact, additional weak systems remain possible in the days ahead. Updates will be issued if snowfall timing or amounts change.
