Rensselaer, N.Y. — A round of late-day showers Monday could be the prelude to a stormier Tuesday in eastern New York, with Rensselaer and the Capital Region set to see significant rainfall and reduced visibility on the roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Monday will start mostly cloudy with highs near 76°F. By Monday night, a 50% chance of showers develops after 2 a.m., increasing to an 80% chance of rain Tuesday, when thunderstorms are also possible after 11 a.m. Drivers should expect wet conditions during the morning and evening commutes on major roads like I-90 and U.S. Route 4.
Air quality is also a concern. A Health Advisory for Fine Particulates remains in effect until midnight Sunday due to elevated pollution levels across Rensselaer County and surrounding areas. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activity, especially for those with respiratory conditions or heart disease.
The summer-like weather won’t hold. After Tuesday’s storm system, conditions dry out midweek. Wednesday brings sunny skies and a high near 79°F. Thursday and Friday will remain mostly sunny with highs around 82°F and 80°F, respectively. Another round of rain could return by Saturday, with a 40% chance of showers and highs near 77°F.
Five-Day Outlook for Rensselaer (June 8–13):
- Sunday: High 80°F, patchy fog and haze
- Monday: High 76°F, PM showers possible
- Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms, high 72°F
- Wednesday: Sunny, high 79°F
- Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 82°F
Stay weather-aware and monitor road conditions closely—especially late Monday into Tuesday. More alerts may follow if rainfall totals increase or storm activity strengthens.
