ALBANY, NY — A veil of patchy fog lingers over the Hudson Valley this morning, softening headlights and frosting the fields in gray. The air feels calm but crisp — one of those quiet upstate mornings that signals autumn’s deepening hold as October’s final week begins.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Friday starts mostly cloudy and cool, with areas of fog through midmorning. Skies will clear gradually as the day progresses, and highs will climb to around 57°F by afternoon. A few stray showers can’t be ruled out early, but conditions quickly improve heading into the weekend.
Saturday brings mostly sunny skies and a touch more warmth, with highs near 54°F and light northwesterly winds. Sunday follows suit — partly sunny and calm, highs around 52°F, and a dry finish to the weekend. Nights, however, will stay cold: lows dip into the low 30s, flirting with frost in rural valleys and shaded pockets from Rensselaer to Saratoga County.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday remain dry with highs in the low to mid-50s, but computer models hint at a colder air mass late next week, potentially signaling the first hard frost or light snow showers in higher elevations as November begins.
To be fair, this weekend feels like a gift — calm, dry, and comfortably cool — ideal for yard cleanup, hikes, or early Halloween decorating before the next weather change.
After all, this is upstate New York — and that first flake could arrive sooner than you think.
