Albany, N.Y. – Umbrellas will be essential this week across Upstate New York as scattered storms and daily rain chances keep the Capital Region and Hudson Valley unsettled through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Albany, nearly every day will bring at least a 30% chance for showers or thunderstorms in cities like Albany, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, and Saratoga Springs. The greatest threat arrives Thursday and Friday, when rain chances climb above 70% for many locations, and locally heavy downpours could impact travel during the evening commute.
Expect mild July highs, with most towns from Albany to Glens Falls and Pittsfield staying in the low to mid-80s through Sunday. The oppressive heat and humidity seen earlier this month won’t return, though temperatures will bounce between the upper 70s and low 80s for much of the period. Cooler pockets, such as Whitehall and Piseco, may dip into the upper 60s and low 70s at times.
Roads may be slick during peak downpours, and the risk of flash flooding will rise in low-lying or poor drainage areas—especially Thursday into Friday. Residents should keep phones charged for weather alerts and allow extra time for travel during storms.
This stretch of unsettled weather is typical for July, and no widespread severe outbreaks are expected. More showers and storms are possible again early next week, so stay tuned for updated advisories from the NWS Albany.
