Binghamton, NY – Central New York is enjoying another mild fall day before clouds begin to increase this afternoon as a warm front approaches the region. Temperatures will reach the low to mid-60s under mostly sunny skies early, turning partly cloudy by evening.

According to the National Weather Service office in Binghamton, southerly winds will draw slightly warmer air into the Southern Tier through the afternoon, keeping conditions comfortable and dry for most areas. A few isolated light showers may attempt to form later today, but most precipitation is expected to evaporate before reaching the ground due to dry low-level air.

Forecasters say this will be the last notably mild day of the week, with a gradual cooling trend expected midweek as a cold front moves in from the Great Lakes. Highs on Wednesday will fall into the upper 50s with scattered showers, followed by clearing and crisp, cool mornings to close out the workweek.

According to meteorologists, the front will bring a shift to northwest winds by Wednesday night, dropping lows into the upper 30s and setting up a stretch of dry, breezy, and seasonably cool weather through the weekend. Leaf-peeping conditions are expected to remain excellent, particularly across the Catskills, Finger Lakes, and northern Pennsylvania border counties.

Today’s mild air and light breezes mark one final taste of early fall warmth before the region transitions into a cooler late-October pattern.
