NEW YORK – A weak frontal system will bring clouds and light rain to the tri-state region Monday afternoon and evening, marking a brief return of wet fall weather before another stretch of dry, cooler days midweek. The National Weather Service in New York City said most areas will see temperatures near 60 degrees despite the showers, with rainfall generally light and short-lived.
According to the Weather Service, rain will develop from west to east after 2 p.m. Monday, spreading into the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and southern Connecticut by evening. Totals will remain under a quarter inch for most locations, including New York City, Bridgeport, and New Haven. The system will move offshore after midnight, followed by clearing skies and slightly cooler air Tuesday.
Commuters may experience damp roads during the Monday evening rush, though no flooding or strong winds are expected. The mild temperatures will offer a brief reprieve from the weekend chill, but forecasters note that another cool-down is likely by midweek as high pressure rebuilds from the north.
Outdoor plans Monday morning should remain unaffected, but residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas handy for late-day showers.
