Albany, NY – Post-holiday travelers in the Albany area are advised to brace for below-average temperatures today and increasing rain by the weekend. Thursday begins with frigid single-digit lows and patchy freezing fog, clearing to sunny skies but remaining cold. Highs today will struggle to reach 27°F.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), freezing fog is likely before 9 a.m. Thursday, impacting visibility on roadways, especially on I-87 and I-90. Drivers are urged to proceed cautiously during the morning commute. Tonight will remain mostly clear with calm winds and a low near 9°F.
Friday brings slightly milder conditions, with sunny skies and highs reaching 28°F. However, by Friday night, clouds will roll in, and temperatures will drop to 19°F. A weather shift is expected on Saturday, with a slight chance of freezing rain early before transitioning to steady rainfall by afternoon. Highs will climb to 40°F.
The heaviest rainfall is projected Saturday night into Sunday, with a 60-80% chance of precipitation and totals nearing an inch in some areas. Temperatures will peak near 50°F Sunday, marking a significant warming trend but bringing wet conditions that could disrupt post-Christmas plans.
By Monday, rain will persist, with highs near 51°F. Travelers are encouraged to monitor forecasts and prepare for slick roads as freezing conditions give way to heavy rain.
Stay tuned for updates and travel safely this weekend as weather conditions evolve.
