STAMFORD, Conn. – A widespread Frost Advisory has been extended across southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and parts of the New York City metro as clear skies and calm winds set the stage for temperatures in the 30s overnight. The National Weather Service in New York warns that frost will form between midnight and 8 a.m. EST Friday, potentially damaging tender plants and outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory includes southern Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties in Connecticut; eastern Bergen, Essex, and Union counties in New Jersey; and southern Westchester along with parts of Suffolk County on Long Island. Temperatures will bottom out between 33 and 37 degrees, coldest in inland valleys and sheltered suburban areas.
Gardeners and homeowners should cover or bring in plants, and commuters may find light frost on vehicles and bridges before sunrise. The New Jersey Turnpike, I-95 corridor, and Long Island Expressway may see patchy slick spots on shaded surfaces early Friday.
The chill will ease after sunrise with abundant sunshine and highs returning to the 50s. Warmer weather returns this weekend before another cool front arrives early next week, bringing a brief taste of winter back to the Northeast.
