ALBANY, N.Y. – A chilly autumn night will bring patchy frost across parts of eastern New York and southern Vermont overnight tonight, as temperatures dip into the low to mid-30s. The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Frost Advisory from midnight tonight through 8 a.m. Saturday for areas including Albany, Schenectady, Montgomery, Saratoga, Washington, Warren, and Fulton counties, along with Windham County, Vermont.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures between 33 and 36 degrees will allow frost to form on exposed surfaces, potentially harming tender outdoor plants. Gardeners and homeowners should cover sensitive vegetation, bring potted plants inside, and disconnect hoses before temperatures fall near freezing.
Clear skies and light winds will set the stage for rapid cooling after sunset. According to NWS Albany meteorologists, frost will be most widespread in sheltered valleys and rural zones outside the Capital Region’s urban centers. Agricultural operations in the Mohawk Valley and southern Adirondacks could see crop impacts if precautions aren’t taken.
Motorists may find frosted windshields early Saturday morning, especially along I-87, I-88, and Route 7 corridors. The New York State Department of Transportation advises allowing extra travel time and using caution on bridge decks, which cool faster than road surfaces.
Conditions will warm later Saturday under sunny skies, with a gradual moderation continuing into Sunday and early next week.
