WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A chilly fall morning is on tap for much of the New York metro suburbs as a Frost Advisory remains in effect through 9 a.m. EDT Monday. Temperatures have dipped into the mid-30s across parts of southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey, and New York’s lower Hudson Valley, allowing frost to form on lawns and windshields.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, frost is likely in sheltered and inland locations of Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London Counties in Connecticut, as well as Eastern Passaic, Western Bergen, Western Essex, and Western Union Counties in New Jersey. In New York, Rockland and Southern Westchester Counties are also under the advisory.

Residents are urged to protect outdoor plants and flowers, cover garden beds, and bring potted plants indoors. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left exposed.

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture and Connecticut Cooperative Extension Service recommend disconnecting garden hoses and avoiding early-morning watering, as frozen droplets can damage plant tissue.

Commuters may encounter patchy frost on windshields and slick spots on bridges or overpasses before sunrise. Skies will clear by late morning, with temperatures rebounding into the upper 50s under bright sunshine.

Another cool but dry day is expected Tuesday as the region settles into a classic late-October pattern.
