NEW YORK, N.Y. – A brisk north wind and dropping temperatures are ushering in a fresh burst of fall across New York this week, with sunshine returning and a cooler, drier pattern setting in by Thursday. Commuters and pedestrians alike will notice the seasonal chill as gusts push through the five boroughs early today.

According to the National Weather Service in Upton, Tuesday remains partly cloudy with highs near 59°F before skies clear late in the day. North winds up to 20 mph may make it feel closer to the lower 50s along the Hudson and on bridges across I-95. Wednesday brings a milder feel, topping out near 64°F under mostly sunny skies, but the next cold push drops highs back to the upper 50s by Thursday.

New Yorkers planning outdoor events, leaf-peeping drives, or pumpkin patch trips will enjoy bright skies through Friday. However, those morning walks could feel brisk, especially north and west of the city where early frost is possible this weekend. The city’s Department of Sanitation advises residents to secure loose items and clear storm drains as leaves begin to fall.

Looking ahead, another system could bring scattered showers by Sunday, signaling the next turn toward wetter, colder air just before Halloween decorations hit full stride. Bundle up for the morning commute, dress in layers, and take advantage of the crisp sunshine while it lasts—classic October weather is firmly in charge now.
