Temperatures in New York will drop this afternoon as a cold front moves east. Despite morning highs in the 30s, conditions will turn colder.
According to the National Weather Service, sustained northwest winds will range from 10 to 20 mph. Gusts could reach 30 mph, peaking at 35 mph. Skies will remain mostly sunny, with any lingering cloud cover clearing by afternoon.
New York’s average high for February 1 is 40°F, but today’s temperatures will remain below that mark. The record high for this date was 67°F in 1989. Sunrise occurred at 7:06 a.m., with sunset expected at 5:14 p.m.
Residents should prepare for brisk conditions, especially in open areas where winds will feel stronger. Dress warmly and be cautious of wind chills. The cold trend may continue into the evening.
