Albany, NY — A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow is expected to disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Upstate New York beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through late Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a shifting frontal boundary and a series of low-pressure systems will bring widespread precipitation from March 28 through March 31. Northern counties including Old Forge, Whitehall, and Brattleboro face the highest risk for freezing rain and mixed precipitation, especially overnight and into the early morning hours.
Forecasts indicate rain will begin Friday at noon in Albany, with cooler air pushing into the region by Saturday, leading to potential icing north of Interstate 90. High temperatures will range widely—from the mid-30s in Old Forge to the low 60s in Kingston—depending on the front’s placement.
Residents should prepare for slippery road conditions and possible power line icing in affected areas. Drivers are advised to limit travel during peak wintry mix periods, especially in higher elevations.
The system is expected to taper by early Monday, with temperatures rising statewide into the 50s and 60s, signaling a return to milder conditions heading into April.
