Albany, NY – The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for southern Herkimer County through 6 p.m. Tuesday, warning of 2 to 6 inches of snow and gusty winds that could make travel difficult through this evening.
Forecasters say lake effect snow showers will continue across the region today, with the heaviest bands expected in areas near Old Forge and Herkimer, where locally higher totals are possible. Elsewhere, snowfall will be lighter — 1 to 3 inches for parts of the Mohawk Valley, southern Adirondacks, and southern Vermont, and less than an inch around Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Pittsfield.
According to the NWS, strong northwest winds up to 35 mph will accompany the snow, reducing visibility at times and creating slick roads, especially on secondary and untreated surfaces. The advisory area is expected to see the worst travel impacts through early evening before conditions gradually improve overnight.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, especially when driving through higher elevations and open areas prone to blowing snow.
Temperatures will remain in the 30s through Wednesday, with quieter and drier weather expected midweek.
