Utica, NY – Northern and Southern Oneida counties are bracing for up to two feet of lake effect snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions through early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Snowfall accumulations between 10 and 20 inches are expected, with localized amounts reaching two feet in northwest Oneida County. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions and hazardous travel, especially during Monday’s commutes.

Blowing snow and reduced visibility are anticipated, along with possible power outages and tree damage. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are likely in heavy bands, fluctuating north and south through Tuesday night.

Residents are urged to avoid travel if possible. If travel is necessary, carry emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight. For updated road conditions, call 511 within New York state.
