Albany, NY – A steady round of snow will impact the central Adirondacks beginning late this morning, bringing hazardous travel conditions across Hamilton County through Monday evening. The National Weather Service says snowfall will continue for more than 24 hours, with the heaviest totals in the northwestern higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday for Long Lake, Sabattis, Hoffmeister, Wells, and surrounding Adirondack communities.

Forecasters expect 4 to 7 inches of snow across most of the county, with 6 to 9 inches possible in far northwestern Hamilton County, where upslope flow will enhance snowfall rates. Winds will gust up to 35 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and pockets of reduced visibility.

According to the NWS, drivers should plan on slippery road conditions, especially on rural stretches, bridges, and higher-elevation routes where snow may accumulate quickly. Periods of falling snow combined with gusty winds could create challenging visibility throughout the day and into Monday.

Snowfall will increase in intensity this afternoon and evening before tapering to lighter, persistent snow on Monday. The prolonged nature of the storm means travel impacts may linger through the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution across local roadways. Those traveling into the Adirondack interior or along mountainous corridors should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
