New York – A quiet, cool start along Lake Erie won’t last long, as a surge of moisture is lining up and could bring flooding rain and strong storms within the next 24 hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, widespread showers and thunderstorms arrive Tuesday into Tuesday night, with rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches likely and locally higher amounts possible. Repeated storms over the same areas could trigger poor drainage flooding and rising creeks.

Today begins mild with highs near 53°F and only a slight chance of showers. Roads across Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and along I-90 remain mostly dry for now. That window closes quickly.

By late today into tonight, rain chances surge to 90%. Showers become steady, and a rumble of thunder is possible after dark. Expect wet pavement and reduced visibility for evening travel.

Tuesday brings the most impactful stretch. Highs reach near 64°F, but storms develop through the day and intensify into the afternoon and evening. Gusty winds and heavy rain could slow traffic on I-190 and Route 33. Plan extra time and avoid flooded roadways.

Tuesday night continues the threat with heavy rain and ongoing storms. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset.

Wednesday keeps showers in place with an 80% chance and cooler highs near 48°F. By Wednesday night, temperatures dip toward the mid-30s. While mainly rain is expected, colder air could flirt with a brief mix inland.

Thursday stays unsettled with additional showers and highs near 57°F.

Looking ahead, early April trends milder but active, with more rain chances on the horizon.
