Buffalo, N.Y. – Sudden downpours and booming thunder may greet Buffalo residents as they head into Thursday, July 24th, with weather officials issuing a summer weather alert for the region. Drivers along I-90 and throughout Erie County should expect slippery conditions and possible delays as scattered thunderstorms move in after midnight, bringing a renewed risk of street flooding and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, Buffalo will see a surge of warm air on Thursday with highs soaring to 88°F. Southwesterly winds will gust up to 24 mph before thunderstorms roll in after 2 a.m. and continue intermittently through Thursday night. The most intense showers are expected Thursday evening, especially in low-lying areas and neighborhoods prone to pooling water. Motorists should plan extra travel time, charge devices in advance, and avoid driving through standing water.

By Friday, July 25th, storms will taper to showers by early morning, with highs cooling slightly to 81°F. More scattered rain is likely into Friday evening, keeping streets damp and visibility low for the morning and evening commutes. The weekend brings a mix of clouds, sun, and lingering showers, with Saturday’s high near 84°F and the chance for more afternoon thunderstorms, especially late Saturday into Saturday night.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s forecast offers a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s, but the chance of showers returns Monday and Tuesday. Storms could again impact travel and outdoor plans, so residents should stay weather-aware and monitor for additional updates.

Weather alerts remain in effect through Friday night. Next update will be issued Thursday afternoon as storm timing sharpens.
