Albany, New York — Dry conditions will hold through the weekend across eastern New York, but a shift to active weather begins Tuesday afternoon as thunderstorms develop between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., bringing slick roads and reduced visibility to Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga Springs and Pittsfield.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, temperatures will climb into the mid-60s to near 80 degrees Tuesday before showers and thunderstorms move in, marking the start of an unsettled stretch lasting through much of the week.

This is part of a broader system bringing a warmup followed by a prolonged period of rain and cooler air across the Northeast, increasing the risk of repeated travel impacts.

Storms Tuesday may produce brief heavy downpours that quickly overwhelm drainage in low-lying streets and underpasses, especially in urban areas along I-90 and I-87. Water can pool within minutes during heavier bursts, reducing visibility and slowing the evening commute.

Rain becomes more widespread Wednesday into Thursday, with periods of steady rainfall likely during the morning and midday hours, creating longer-duration slick conditions on highways and secondary roads.

Drivers should slow during heavy rain and avoid water-covered roadways, while residents should monitor updates as multiple rounds of rain move through.

The most immediate impact will occur between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, when thunderstorms first disrupt travel across eastern New York.
