New York, NY – A dramatic warm-up is set to take hold across the New York City metro starting this weekend, with temperatures climbing nearly 20 degrees and reaching the 80s by early next week.
After a stretch of cooler conditions, highs will rebound into the upper 50s and low 60s Friday and Saturday before a steady climb begins Sunday. By Monday afternoon, much of the region will see temperatures surge into the low to mid-80s, marking the warmest stretch so far this season.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, locations including Central Park, Newark, and White Plains are expected to reach between 82°F and 85°F by Monday and Tuesday. Even typically cooler coastal areas such as Long Island and coastal Connecticut will push into the 70s, with spots like New London nearing the low 70s.
The warming trend will be driven by a strong shift in air mass, allowing above-normal temperatures to settle across the Northeast through much of next week. Cities like Bridgeport, Hempstead, and Ronkonkoma will see a steady rise from the 50s this weekend into the 70s and low 80s by early next week.
While no extreme heat hazards are expected, the rapid temperature increase could catch some residents off guard, especially after several cooler days. Light clothing and hydration will become more important during the afternoon hours, particularly for those spending extended time outdoors.
This stretch of mild to warm weather is expected to hold through at least midweek, with additional updates possible if temperatures trend even higher across the region.
