New York, NY – Light snowflakes swirl past skyscrapers this morning, dusting rooftops and turning wet pavement slick in spots. Drivers stepping out now will notice slushy patches and wind chills in the teens, even as sunshine tries to break through. Travel remains manageable, but conditions could change quickly by evening as temperatures dip toward freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, scattered snow showers will taper off later today after producing a coating to 1 inch in parts of the city and up to 2 inches in colder suburbs north and west. Highs reach near 37 degrees, but wind chills hover between 15 and 25 degrees through midday. Roads that stay damp could refreeze after sunset as lows fall to around 29 degrees.

Bridges and elevated roadways across the five boroughs may turn slick first. Watch I-95, the FDR Drive, and the Cross Bronx Expressway for isolated icy stretches. Flash freezing becomes a concern this time of year when daytime melting gives way to evening cold. Allow extra space between vehicles and reduce speed on untreated streets.

Saturday turns mostly sunny with a high near 43. Sunday brings another 40 percent chance of snow, mainly late, with temperatures near 39 before dropping to the lower 30s. A light coating is possible north and west of the city, especially in higher elevations.

President’s Day Week trends milder. Highs climb into the mid-40s Monday and approach the upper 40s to near 50 by midweek. Long-range guidance signals a broader warm-up across the eastern U.S., with temperatures running above normal into late week.

Five Day Outlook for New York City, NY:
Today: High 37, scattered snow showers ending.
Saturday: High 43, mostly sunny.
Sunday: High 39, chance of snow late.
Monday: High 42, partly sunny.
Tuesday: High 47, partly sunny.
