Binghamton, NY – Winter weather is making a brief return to Upstate New York, with snow and sleet expected late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The storm could create slippery road conditions, especially on major routes like I-81 and Route 17, during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin as rain before transitioning to snow and sleet around 4 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will hover around freezing, with little accumulation expected. However, untreated roads may become slick, posing hazards for early travelers.
Thursday will see partly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching a high of 54°F by the afternoon. Winds will remain light, making for a more pleasant day once the morning precipitation clears.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring similar conditions, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 59°F. However, by Saturday, another system will move in, bringing a 50% chance of afternoon showers and highs in the low 60s. Rain is expected to continue into Sunday, with a 90% chance of showers and a high of 67°F.
Drivers should use caution Thursday morning, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice forms more quickly. Warmer temperatures later in the week will help clear any lingering wintry precipitation.
