Buffalo, NY – A fresh round of showers and embedded thunderstorms is forecast to move into Western New York late Sunday night, with the potential to disrupt travel and outdoor plans across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Buffalo, a break in rain is expected this evening before stronger storms roll in from the west. A Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms has been issued for far western New York, including Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Jamestown, with a Marginal Risk zone extending east across the Genesee Valley into areas like Rochester and Geneva.

Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern in any stronger cells, particularly between 9 p.m. Sunday and 12 a.m. Monday. While some weakening of the storms is expected as they track eastward, localized hazards may still occur. The threat decreases significantly into the early morning hours of March 31.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity, and monitor local alerts. This system follows a period of above-freezing temperatures, marking a transition to a more active spring pattern. Updates will be issued as needed from the National Weather Service.
