New York, NY – Severe thunderstorms could sweep across the Tri-State area Thursday between 4 and 10 p.m., bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and the potential for isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, storms are expected to develop in the late afternoon and push east through the evening. The primary threat includes wind gusts strong enough to knock down trees and power lines, while large hail and brief tornadoes also remain possible. The region is under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather.

Cities including New York, Newark, Stamford, White Plains, and Paterson should prepare for fast-moving storms during the evening commute. Localized flooding is also possible where downpours persist. Outdoor plans should be rescheduled, and drivers are urged to use caution or delay travel during peak storm hours.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be prepared to take shelter quickly if severe storms approach. Schools and evening activities may be disrupted, especially in areas that experience high wind gusts.

Additional watches or warnings could be issued with little notice. Alerts remain in effect through Thursday night.
