New York, NY – A calm Friday will transition into a potentially messy weekend as rain and snow are forecast for the region. Drivers and pedestrians should prepare for slippery conditions, particularly on untreated roadways, starting Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday remains sunny with highs nearing 39 degrees. Clouds will increase overnight, leading to a 50% chance of rain beginning Saturday afternoon. Winds from the south at 10 mph may add to the chill despite temperatures climbing to 45 degrees.
Rain will continue Saturday night before transitioning to a mix of rain and snow into Sunday morning. With overnight lows dipping near 34 degrees, roadways and sidewalks may develop slick spots. The heaviest precipitation is expected late Saturday, impacting visibility and travel on major thoroughfares like the FDR Drive and I-87.
By Sunday, conditions will partially clear, though snow showers remain possible, particularly in the evening. Temperatures will fall sharply overnight to around 21 degrees, making icy conditions more likely into Monday morning.
Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will bring sunshine but frigid highs of 26 degrees, followed by even colder lows of 11 degrees Monday night. The rest of the week stays dry, with temperatures in the low 20s through Wednesday.
