New York – Rain is already falling steadily across Buffalo this afternoon, coating roads in a slick sheen while low clouds and mist reduce visibility across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, rain continues through the afternoon with a 100% chance of precipitation and highs near 47°F. Wet pavement is widespread, especially along I-90 and Route 33. Plan extra time and increase following distance.
Conditions briefly settle tonight as skies remain mostly cloudy and temperatures dip to the low 30s. Saturday offers a quieter stretch with partial sunshine and highs near 44°F, giving roads time to dry.
But changes are already lining up. Meteorologists now tracking the next system say rain returns Sunday, mainly after early morning hours, with a 70% chance and highs near 48°F. Expect another round of wet travel and reduced visibility.
By Sunday night, colder air begins to filter in. Rain mixes with snow at times as temperatures fall toward 29°F. Slushy patches may develop, especially on less-traveled roads and elevated surfaces.
Monday keeps the unsettled pattern going. A chance of snow showers lingers early with highs only near 36°F before skies gradually improve. Winds add a brisk feel across western New York.
Here’s the concern. Monday night drops to around 23°F. Any leftover moisture may refreeze, creating icy spots for early Tuesday drivers. Bridges and overpasses will be the first to turn slick.
Tuesday brings partial sunshine and a rebound to near 41°F, but morning travel could still be tricky in spots.
