New York, NY – A frontal system moving across the region tonight will bring widespread showers to the New York metro area and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey, according to the US National Weather Service New York.

Forecasters say most of the rain will arrive late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, with totals ranging from a quarter-inch to over a half-inch in some spots. The heaviest rainfall is expected in southern Connecticut, including Hartford, Waterbury, and New London, where totals could approach 0.50 to 0.56 inches.

Across New York City, Long Island, and the lower Hudson Valley, rainfall amounts are forecast between 0.25 and 0.40 inches, while New Jersey suburbs such as Newark and West Milford could see around 0.20 to 0.30 inches by mid-morning Wednesday.

Drivers should expect wet roads and slower commutes during the early morning hours, especially along I-95 and other major routes connecting New York and Connecticut. The system is expected to move offshore by Wednesday afternoon, allowing for drier conditions later in the day.

No severe weather or flooding is expected at this time, but forecasters advise monitoring local updates for any changes in rainfall intensity or timing.
