Buffalo, N.Y. – Western New York is in for a brisk, soggy shift as a cold front moves through the region Thursday, dropping highs into the upper 60s and mid-70s and unleashing widespread showers, especially south of Lake Ontario.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, clouds will thicken tonight, with scattered showers developing and spreading from west to east overnight. Rain will be most frequent and long-lasting across the Southern Tier and interior Finger Lakes, lingering into Thursday morning before tapering off later in the day.

The cool-down will be especially noticeable in areas like Rochester, Jamestown, and Elmira, where morning showers could dampen commutes and early outdoor plans. Low temperatures tonight will hover in the low to mid-60s, and the daytime highs Thursday will struggle to reach 70 in some places.

Drivers should allow extra time Thursday morning due to slick roads and reduced visibility in pockets of heavier rain. Residents are advised to keep rain gear handy and consider postponing outdoor work until conditions dry out in the afternoon.

Much cooler and drier weather will take hold late Thursday, with the next weather update expected by Thursday evening.
