Binghamton, New York – Dry conditions hold just long enough for weekend plans, but rain is set to return in time to impact the Monday commute across the Southern Tier.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, high pressure will keep conditions dry through Sunday afternoon, with temperatures gradually warming into the 50s and low 60s. By late Sunday night, clouds increase ahead of a more unsettled pattern.

Rain chances ramp up quickly Monday morning, with probabilities climbing to 60% to 70% by the afternoon in cities like Binghamton, Elmira, and Ithaca. Roads along I-81, Route 17, and I-86 could become slick during peak travel hours, especially where steadier rain develops.

The unsettled pattern continues into Tuesday, with additional showers possible and temperatures rising into the low to mid-70s across much of central and upstate New York. Locations including Syracuse, Scranton, and Utica will also see increasing rain chances and warmer conditions.

While severe weather is not the primary concern, periods of moderate rain could reduce visibility and create minor ponding on roadways.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions early next week, allow extra travel time during rainy periods, and stay updated as additional advisories may be issued.
