New York – A gray, misty chill hangs over the Capital Region, and temperatures are stuck near 30 degrees. Roads look merely damp this morning, but conditions will deteriorate quickly by midday. Snow and ice are set to move into Albany, threatening the evening commute along I-90 and I-787.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon through 4 a.m. Snow totals between 1 and 4 inches are expected, with a light glaze of ice possible. Mixed precipitation develops early this afternoon before transitioning to steadier snow. Localized pockets of freezing rain may form, especially along and south of Interstate 90.
Plan for snow-covered roads by late afternoon. Bridges and overpasses will turn slick first. Even a thin glaze can cause spinouts. Slow down and allow extra braking distance.
Snow continues into tonight, with lows falling to around 24 degrees. Untreated roads may refreeze, creating flash freezing hazards before dawn. Thursday turns partly sunny with highs near 38, offering a brief break.
Another round of rain and snow arrives Friday with a 90 percent chance of precipitation. The weekend stays unsettled with additional snow chances Saturday and Sunday as highs hover in the mid-30s.
Next week begins cold with scattered snow showers Monday. The 6–10 day outlook hints at moderating temperatures late next week, signaling gradual improvement toward early spring patterns.
