Binghamton, NY – A brief warmup continues across central New York this weekend before a strong cold front sweeps through Sunday, bringing gusty winds and the chance for a few isolated thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
Saturday will be mild and mostly dry, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to around 70°F.
Sunday, however, will turn windy, especially across the Finger Lakes region, where gusts between 35 and 40 mph are expected. The strong winds will arrive ahead of the approaching cold front.
Forecasters say an isolated thunderstorm or two could develop late Sunday or Sunday night, but instability remains low. Still, strong wind shear could allow surface gusts to mix down, leading to brief strong winds in any heavier showers.
Conditions will turn cooler and breezy behind the front heading into Monday.
