Binghamton, NY – Light rain will begin impacting parts of Central New York later this afternoon, bringing slick roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a warm front lifting north will trigger scattered showers mainly after 3 p.m., with rain chances increasing into the evening hours. Areas including Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, and Syracuse could see on-and-off light rain through tonight, with precipitation chances ranging from 40 to 60 percent.

Roads such as I-81, Route 17, and I-86 may become damp during peak travel times, though rainfall amounts are expected to remain light. Cloud cover will keep conditions gray, but a noticeable warming trend is underway.

By Tuesday into Wednesday, temperatures will climb steadily into the 70s across much of Central and Southern Tier New York. Cities like Binghamton and Scranton could reach the mid to upper 70s by Wednesday afternoon, marking one of the warmest stretches so far this season.

Residents should plan for occasional showers and allow extra travel time this evening. The unsettled pattern will continue into early next week, with additional rain chances possible as warmer air remains in place.
