Port Jervis, New York – Drivers in the Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey should prepare for slick travel by late Tuesday morning as snow and freezing rain spread into the region, threatening the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday for Orange County in New York and Western Passaic County in New Jersey. Snow totals will remain under 1 inch, but ice accumulations from a light glaze to a few hundredths of an inch are expected. Areas north and west of Port Jervis could approach one tenth of an inch of ice.

Interstate 84, Route 17 and Route 23 may see slippery stretches during the afternoon and early evening drive. Elevated bridges and untreated secondary roads in communities such as Middletown and West Milford are especially vulnerable as temperatures hover near freezing.

Transportation officials urge drivers to reduce speed and check state DOT services for live road updates. Sidewalks and parking lots may also become slick.

The advisory expires at 6 p.m. Tuesday, though additional updates could follow if icing lingers into the evening.
