Binghamton, NY – Lake-effect snow sweeping across northern New York will persist through Friday, affecting areas near Oneida County and Lake Ontario. Forecasters warn of heavy snowfall in isolated areas, with totals expected to reach 6 inches by midday Friday. A Winter Weather Advisory remains active for the region.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will concentrate north of Oneida County, particularly along Interstate 81. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility may drop significantly during heavier snow bands, increasing the risk of accidents. Those traveling through Oswego and Pulaski should plan for delays.
Thursday’s forecast predicts light snow showers tapering off by late afternoon, with temperatures hovering near 28°F. By Friday, skies will clear, bringing sunshine and a daytime high of 26°F, but bitter wind chills will persist. Saturday offers another sunny day, with highs reaching 32°F, providing a brief respite from snow.
Looking ahead, another storm system may bring rain and snow to the region on Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will warm to 38°F but fall sharply by Sunday night, with lows near 32°F and a 50% chance of mixed precipitation.
Residents should prepare for fluctuating conditions and keep up with local advisories. To ensure safety, stock emergency kits, check tire conditions, and limit travel during active snow periods.
