Binghamton, NY – After a calm start to the week, the National Weather Service (NWS) Binghamton warns that rain and falling temperatures midweek will set the stage for lake effect snow beginning on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27) and continuing into the weekend.
According to the NWS forecast, a cold front will move through Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing periods of rain before temperatures drop sharply by Thanksgiving morning. This colder air will trigger lake effect snow bands across portions of central and northern New York, especially areas north of the Southern Tier.
Highs are expected to fall from the upper 40s and 50s early in the week to the 30s by Friday and Saturday, marking one of the coldest stretches so far this season. The snow may linger through Saturday, Nov. 29, with potential for light to moderate accumulations in localized areas.
Forecasters caution travelers to monitor updated forecasts closely, as details on snow intensity and location are still developing, but confidence in impactful holiday weather is increasing.
