Binghamton, NY – A wintry blast more typical of early March is sweeping through Central New York, bringing scattered lake effect snow showers and colder-than-average temperatures through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Binghamton, areas including Syracuse, Binghamton, and Oneida County will see mostly cloudy skies with snow showers today, particularly in Central NY. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for northern Oneida County, where travel may be slick during morning commutes due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility.
High temperatures across the region will remain well below seasonal norms. Binghamton is forecast to reach only 37°F, far under its usual April 16 high of 55°F. Syracuse will top out near 39°F, while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre may barely reach the low 40s.
The winter-like chill won’t last long. A gradual warm-up begins Thursday, with sunny skies and highs rebounding into the upper 40s and low 50s. By Saturday, residents can expect temperatures in the 60s along with occasional rain showers.
Motorists should use caution during morning hours, especially in higher elevations where snow may accumulate on untreated roads. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and check local alerts via weather.gov/bgm.
