New York, NY – A weakening edge of a migrating heat dome is set to bring a stretch of mild, above-normal warmth to New York within days, along with periodic rain chances that could impact travel at times through early April.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, New York falls within a 50 to 60 percent probability of above-normal temperatures from April 3 through April 9, with a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal precipitation. Highs in New York City, Albany, and Buffalo are expected to reach the 70s to low 80s, running 5 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages.

Unlike areas farther south, New York sits along the outer fringe of the heat dome, where the influence of warmer air is less intense. This setup allows for more variable conditions, with intervals of sunshine mixed with passing systems bringing showers and occasional thunderstorms.

Rain chances will be more scattered compared to the Midwest, but periods of heavier rain could still impact major corridors including I-90, I-87, and I-95. Drivers should remain alert for reduced visibility during passing showers.

Residents can expect more comfortable conditions compared to the Southeast but should still prepare for quick weather changes and brief downpours.

This pattern is expected to persist through April 3–9, with additional updates likely as the heat dome shifts and regional rain chances evolve.
