Oswego, NY – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Oswego County from late Wednesday night through Saturday morning, as heavy lake effect snow and strong winds are expected to impact the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Forecasters warn that snow accumulations could exceed 7 inches in areas under the most persistent lake effect bands. Winds up to 40 mph may create blowing and drifting snow, resulting in whiteout conditions and hazardous travel across portions of central New York.
Snow is expected to begin late Wednesday night, continuing through Thanksgiving Day and into the weekend. The NWS cautions that travel may become treacherous at times, with slick, snow-covered roads and rapidly changing visibility.
Meteorologists note that localized snow bands could create sharp contrasts in weather conditions within short distances, meaning some areas may see heavy snow while nearby locations experience much less.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead, keep emergency kits in vehicles, and monitor forecast updates as this prolonged lake effect snow event develops.
