Binghamton, N.Y. – A surge of summer heat will push heat index values into the mid-90s across southern New York by Monday, July 28th, creating potentially hazardous conditions for outdoor work and travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures will climb to 91°F Monday afternoon with humidity pushing “feels-like” values closer to 95°F in parts of Broome, Tioga, and Chenango counties. Officials warn those commuting along I-88, Route 17, and Route 81 to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles.

Binghamton will start Monday with patchy morning fog, but skies will clear rapidly. Light winds from the northwest will offer little relief. Monday night remains warm with lows near 67°F and calm winds.

The hot spell continues Tuesday with a high near 93°F and partly cloudy skies by night. Thunderstorm chances increase late Wednesday and Thursday as cooler air moves in. By Friday, highs will return to the upper 70s — bringing welcome relief for weekend plans.
