Buffalo, New York – Cool temperatures will linger across Western New York tonight, bringing the potential for frost in areas away from Lake Erie. The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for several counties, warning that overnight temperatures will dip into the mid to upper 30s, especially in inland areas.

According to the National Weather Service, skies clearing overnight will allow temperatures to fall rapidly, with many areas expected to see lows between 37°F and 40°F. The frost is most likely to occur in areas such as Dunkirk, Jamestown, and Medina, where temperatures will be at their lowest after midnight. While Lake Erie’s proximity will help moderate the temperatures near Buffalo, other areas will face a more significant risk of frost.

Farmers and gardeners should be especially cautious, as temperatures will be low enough to damage sensitive outdoor plants. If you have plants that are not frost-tolerant, the NWS advises bringing them inside or covering them with cloth or plastic. This frost is especially critical for Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, where the growing season officially begins on May 11.

The frost threat is expected to end by Saturday morning, but temperatures will remain cool throughout the day. Warnings will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, and additional advisories could be issued as the cooling pattern continues. Be sure to check local weather updates for further developments.
