Binghamton, N.Y. – Scattered thunderstorms could trigger flash flooding across parts of the Catskills and northeastern Pennsylvania today, with much hotter, drier air arriving by Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall remains in effect through Sunday afternoon. Urban areas, low-lying roads, and small streams near Monticello, Oneonta, and Scranton are most vulnerable to localized flash floods from repeated downpours. The storms are expected to move from northwest to southeast, clearing out by late afternoon.
Temperatures will stay in the mid-80s today, with Binghamton, Elmira, and Wilkes-Barre reaching 85°F. Cooler highs in the upper 70s are forecast for Boonville and Monticello. Monday marks a dramatic warm-up, with Ithaca, Scranton, and Milford expected to top 92°F. Syracuse and Binghamton may hit 90°F for the first time in several weeks.
Travelers should avoid flooded roads and monitor alerts through the evening. Monday will be mostly sunny and hot—residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Flash flood risk ends tonight, but heat advisories may follow if high temperatures persist.
